Abstract

Loud-speakers ; magnetic instruments. - The diaphragm of a telephone receiver, such as a loudspeaker, is mounted on a massive block which is adjustable, slidably and without turning, towards or away from the magnet poles. Fig. 2 shows a loud-speaker in which the diaphragm f is secured by means of an adhesive to a massive block g of brass &c. The block is adjustable within a thick-walled casing by means of a screw h. A screw k prevents rotary movement of the block by engaging in any one of a number of holes drilled in the block. The magnet a, polepieces b and terminals c are mounted on a disc of insulating material which is screwed to the casing e. In a modification. Fig. 3, the horn m is arranged differently, being fixed to the block g instead of to the casing, so that it has a slight vertical movement when the diaphragm is being adjusted. Fig. 4 shows an alternative form of mounting the magnet, polepieces and terminals, these parts being embedded in a moulded insulating base x. Space is left around the poles to allow the windings to be slipped on. The thickness of the casing, diaphragm mounting member, and base, proportionately to that of the diaphragm, is specified, a massive and rigid construction of the casing &c. being adopted to minimize energy losses.
