Abstract
258,832. Horstmann, F. W. Sept. 22, 1925, [Convention date]. Furs and furriery. - Ornamental designs are produced on the surfaces of fur pelts by cutting the hairs in strips and patches of predetermined configuration in a cutting machine in which the feeding device is movable relatively to the cutters. A rotary cutter 12 and a bed knife 13 are mounted on the top of a frame 10. The cutter 12 is rotated on bearings 14 by a belt 22 driven from a pulley 23 and shaft 24 and the bed knife 13 is adjustably mounted on a post 17 integral with the bed plate 15 supporting the bearings 14, both the cutters being enclosed in a housing 18 provided with a vacuum suction outlet 19. The conveyer comprises a bracket 26 having side plates 27, 28 supporting adjustable rollers 31, 32 over which passes a belt 35 carrying the pelts which are held against the lower part of the belt by a roller 43 carried on the arms 45 of levers 46 pressed upwards by a spring 49, and against the upper part by rollers 37 mounted on arms 38 pivoted on a cross rod 39 and pressed downwards by springs 42. Adjustment of the roller is obtained by altering the position of the bolts 34<1> in the plates 27, 28 by rotating screws. The conveyer is automatically reciprocated to and from the cutters by mounting the frames on rocker arms 55 which are reciprocated through links 65 bv levers 63. The latter are actuated bv cam members 59 mounted on a shaft 61 rotated by a pulley 73 driven by a belt 74 from the shaft 24. The shaft 61 also drives the conveyer through a gear wheel 77 and belts 82, 85.
