Electrically operated or controlled fastenings.- An electrically released safety lock for doors &c., independent of the ordinary lock, comprises a pivoted lever d co-operating with a hook e fixed to the door-post and forming the armature of an electromagnet k, which, when energized, raises lever d clear of hook e. The circuit of the magnet may be closed from inside the door by a pushbutton c closing contact-springs a, b, and from outside by a special key i threaded to screw on to a stud carried by spring a, which is pulled to close the circuit. The lever may be held out of action by a pivoted arm h. To enable the lock to be released from outside in the event of failure of current, a spring f is provided, held in compression by a pin g placed in a small hole bored through the door, the outer end being hidden by wax, paint &c. In emergency, pin @ is pushed out of the hole, freeing spring f, which lifts the lever d.
