Lawn-mowers.-In a machine in which the driving-wheels are adjustably mounted in front of the cutting-apparatus and are connected to their axle by free-wheel clutches, and the cutting- apparatus is adjustably mounted and extends laterally beyond the driving-wheels, the rear supporting-roller is carried by adjustably mounted arms the upper ends of which fit into semicircular recesses. The machine comprises two cast-metal skeleton frames 2 connected by tie-bars 5, one of the frames 2 being provided with a detachable cover plate and forming a gear case. The wheels 9 are adjustably secured in position on a shaft or axle 7 by collars and setscrews. They drive the shaft 7 through free-wheel clutches consisting of rollers in tapered eccentric recesses in their bosses. The shaft 7 drives the spindle 17 of the rotary cutter through spur gearing, which does not rotate when the machine moves backwards. The spindle 17 rests in half-bearings beneath bearing caps adjustably secured by set-screws. The ledger blade 20 is detachably fastened to a bar 28 having downwardly projecting semi-circular lugs 31 fitting into corresponding seatings on the side frames, which act as pivotal supports allowing of the adjustment of the ledger blade by means of setscrews 29. The rear roller 33 is carried bv arms 34 the upper ends of which fit into semi-circular recesses in lugs 37. The arms 34 are adjustably secured by bolts 35 passing through curved slots in the side frames. The metal bow of the handle 38 is pivoted on bosses 40.
