Catches yielding to pull.-A spring fastening for boat gripes designed to release automatically on the flotation of the boat comprises a pair of jaws H, which are closed by a spring situated either above or below the pivot. A knob E<2> forming the terminal element in the gripe chain and having curved upper edges, is engaged by the jaws, and these are pressed back on the flotation of the boat owing to the increased tension in the gripe chain.
