Abstract
257,684. Loudon, A., and Jack, W. June 10, 1925. Casings; safety stopping devices. - In a hydro-extractor, a member associated with one of the rotary parts is brought into operation simultaneously with the disconnection of the driving means, and releases a lock on a bolt holding the cover closed. The basket 3 is driven by the belt 5 from a pulley 4 rotated with the fast pulley 4'. The basket spindle carries a drum 8 above which is arranged a heavy brake shoe 7 normally held clear of the drum by a pair of lever arms 10 engaging an annular shoulder 11 on the shoe. The end 15 of a lever 15, 16, pivoted between its ends, is connected to a forked member 17 which acts as an interfering device engaging a nut 18 on the bolt 19 of the cover lock to maintain the bolt shoe. The other end 16 is held clear of the brake shoe by a projection 10<1> on one of the arms 10. The brake is applied by movement of the handle 13 which allows the shoe to drop on the drum 8; the shoe is consequently rotated in opposition to the stress of the compression spring 27. This brings the grooves 21, 21<1> into register with the arms 10 and the movement of the handle 13 can be continued to move the belt 5 on to the loose pulley 4". At the same time the projection 10<1> enters a recess in the lever 16 and permits the lever to rock by gravity until it engages the rim 20 of the shoe. When the machine stops the spring 27 forces the brake shoe back to its original position and the lever 16 enters the groove 21, thereby causing the member 17 to drop so that the bolt 19 is unshot and the cover is raised under the action of the compression spring 28. The brake shoe may have extra grooves for use if the drum revolves in the reverse direction.
