Abstract

255,326. Elias, J. J. M. Jan. 12, 1926. Sugar-cane harvesting-machines.-In a modification of the machines described in Specifications 209,596 and 246,045, upstanding fenders or guiding-walls 1 are situated at each side of the machine, and are each provided with a sharp pointed forwardly-projecting stock lifting part 19 and are adapted to guide the lying cane to a cutter 4, the edge of the fender or wall 1 extending from its forward lower part 19 below the cane cutter 4, and upwards and rearwards. The walls 1 cover the frame, wheels &c. of the machine, and are shaped so as gradually to raise the canes lying against them. The cutters 4 are driven by a transverse shaft which drives also the conveyer of the machine. Other harvesting means may replace the main cutting or cane uprooting devices described in the abovementioned Specifications.
