Abstract

255,211. Spanton, R. June 25, 1925. Stringed instruments, soundboards, bellies, &c. for; mandolins.-The body of a mandolin, guitar, violin &c. is made of felt moulded under heat and then hardened with glue, plaster of Paris, ochre and pumice powder, or like preparation, after which it is finished with a glaze or French polish. In the mandolin shown, a wooden rim B is fixed inside the edge of the felt body with its ends abutting a packing piece D through which screws E are passed into the neck C. An external rim, and internal stretchers H. are also fitted, and the wooden belly G then secured by adhesive.
