Abstract

254,831. Lucas, J. May 2, 1925. Stopping pipes.-The flow of fluid in a pipe 1 is stopped and if necessary a bypass established, by boring a hole 2, and inserting a gland 3 carrying a tubular body 4 central in which is a tube 11 carrying at its lower end an inflatable bag 12 normally housed within the tube but capable of being extruded by pressing down the pipe 11. The pipe 1 can be connected to a suitable pump to inflate the bag and a pressure gauge or pilot bag 14 may be provided to indicate when the pressure is sufficient. The tube 4 is marked so that it may be ascertained when the flared end 5 of the tube 4 is coaxial with the pipe 1. Sidebranches 7 of two separate pieces of apparatus 4 may be connected to constitute a bypass.
