Abstract

Condensers of the kind comprising alternated perforated discs of thin metal and dielectric clamped together by a hollow rivet or the like adapted to receive a fixing screw, are provided with top and bottom metal cover discs adapted for effecting the clamping and also for serving as one electrode of the condenser. The metal foil a having a terminal lug b is interposed between discs c of mica and secured between metal cover discs d, d<1> by means of a rivet e passing through central perforations in the discs and constituting one of the terminals. By passing through the rivet e a fixing screw or bolt the condenser can be fixed to a panel as in Fig. 4 or to a grid leak g as in Fig. 6. The mica discs may be perforated as in Fig. 2 with circular or other holes to reduce dielectric losses, and the number of discs may be varied to give the requisite capacity. The condenser may have an ebonite or like insulating casing h to which it is secured by a second rivet e<1> passing through the rivet e, the casing being cut away at one or two places to receive the terminal lugs. The condenser of Fig. 1 may be modified by substituting discs c<1> of a slightly conducting medium for the mica discs in order to provide a leaking condenser, or, as shown in Fig. 7, foil discs a<1> may be separated by a slightly conducting dielectric disc e<1> for the same purpose. By using mica discs a<2> this construction may be applied to a three-electrode condenser.
