Moving platforms; driving- gear; guiding. - In a passenger conveyer 5 comprising a number of platforms 7 - - 12 arranged in the same plane, each platform is composed of a number of sections connected together and adapted for relative movement when the conveyer moves in a curved path, and each platform carries a flexible rack which is engaged by a driving gear, the gears being of different sizes in order that the speed of the platforms may increase progressively from one side of the conveyer to the. other. Each section 14 of a platform is formed with corrugations 15 filled with an anti-slip compound 18 and is connected to adjacent sections by pivot pins 16 passed through flattened areas 17 of the overlapping ends. The platforms are supported by ball bearings 21 mounted in races 20 formed in tracks 19 and confined by the depending flange 22 of the platform. A continuous flexible rack 25 secured to the pivots 16 is engaged by a shrouded gear 28 driven by a motor .27, and lies flat against a flanged guide 30 also secured to the pivots 16. Guide bars 32 carried by the transverse supports of the tracks 19 are arranged to engage the guides 30 adjacent to the gears 28.
