Abstract

A cushion for a super market trolley, the cushion protects the back of a small child. The cushion has two straps that extend from either side of the cushion thereby allowing the cushion to be secured to the rails of the shopping trolley seat. The straps are preferably adjustable and made from an elasticated material, and are fastened together via releasable fasteners such as a plastic clip, hook and loop fasteners, or one or more rings. The cushion may be made from a soft fabric that is filled with hypoallergenic stuffing, foam or wadding. The cushion may also be used with a high chair, chair or car seat.

This invention was created after experiencing a stressful shopping trip in a supermarket with a toddler. Most young children are restless during a routine trip to the supermarket. After discovering bruising on a toddler's back after sitting in the seat of a trolley with metal railings, we identified that the toddler was experiencing serious discomfort during trips to the supermarket.
To overcome this, the present invention proposes a cushion with an adjustable strap to attach to the back of the trolley seat.
Figure 1 is a view of a supermarket trolley Figure 2 is a view facing directly onto the seat of the cushion attached to the child seat Figure 3 is a side view of the child seat with the cushion attached and the straps securely fastened at the back.
Figure 4 is a rear view from the back of the seat In one embodiment of the present invention, figure 2, a cushion comprising of foam, hypoallergenic stuffing or wadding to provide back support and comfort to a toddler or small child who is capable of sitting unaided in a trolley seat.
In another embodiment, figure 2 of the present invention, a strap is attached to the seat to stop the invention from being dislodged.
The invention is a back support which is attached to the rear of the child seat on a supermarket trolley. It is a cushion made with soft fabric, filled with hypoallergenic stuffing and has an adjustable strap with a plastic clip attached directly onto the rails at the back of the seat. The invention is machine washable. The invention is versatile and can also be used to aid comfort in other items such as a highchair, chair or car seat and the adjustable strap allows this adaptability.
There is no limit as to the type of fabric used for the cushion, although a wipeable or machine washable fabric would be best. The filling of the cushion can be stuffing, wadding or foam. And the straps can be elasticated, polyester or cotton. The fastening's can be a plastic clip, Velcro or rings. The size of the cushion can vary depending on individual preference.
