Abstract

253,593. Graham, E. A. March 17, 1925. Loud-speakers. - Relates to a loudspeaker of the kind described in Specification 248,060, comprising in combination a telephonic receiver unit 7, a sound conduit 6 and a hollow acoustic amplifier or radiator 5 substantially globular in shape and provided with sound exit orifices 5<a> and internal reflecting surfaces 8, 9, part of the conduit 6 extending into the acoustic radiator and the remaining portion with receiver unit being housed in a pedestal or other external casing. According to the present invention, a loudspeaker of this kind is combined with a cabinet 1 in the form of an elongated casing or pillar adapted to contain, in addition to the telephone receiver unit 7, wireless receiving apparatus or valve amplifying means 2, the casing being supported on a base piece or pedestal 1<a> which may be formed hollow to contain one or more electric batteries. The conduit 6 instead of being formed as a straight tube, as shown in Fig. 1, may be made of a bent or curved shape and have its outlet end portion 6a bent over downwardly, the surfaces 8, 9 being correspondingly reversed. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction in which the substantially globular radiator is formed as an urn. The lower end of the conduit 6 may be bent to U-shape to form a trap 10 with removable cover 11 tp collect moisture or other matter.
