Abstract
A fan assisted radiator 1 is pivotally mounted to rotate in respect of a heated water supply 5. The radiator may be mounted between brackets 3, 6, with one or both brackets containing the hot water supply and return, the radiator being connected to the water supply through flexible or rotatable couplings. The couplings may be dry break couplings. The heated water may be supplied from a boiler or a ground or air source heat pump.
Description
RADIATOR
[0001] This invention related to radiators for use in pumped heated water central heating systems, more particularly it relates to fan assisted radiators for use with heat pump supplied heating systems; however, the invention can be applied to conventional central heating systems where heated water is generated by a boiler.
[0002] Heat pump supplied heating systems usually employ a water circuit, inn which water is circulated through an air or ground source heat pump to heat the water and from there though one or more radiators supplying heat to spaces such as rooms before returning to the heat pump to be reheated. Typically the temperature of the water emanating from a heat pump in such systems is consider supplied heating systems operate is rather lower than in boiler supplied heater central heating systems. To improve heat transfers from radiators to rooms, the radiators used are usually fan assisted.
[0003] In conventional systems the position of the radiator is fixed with the result that heat is not always directed to where it in most needed.
[0004] According to the present invention a fan assisted radiator for use in a heated water heating system is pivotally mounted, to rotate in respect of the water supply.
[0005] In one embodiment the rotator is pivotally mounted between a pair of brackets, the brackets containing the hot water supply and return, the radiator being connected to the water supply through flexible or rotatable couplings.
[0006] The water connections to the radiator may comprise dry break couplings. [0007] Electrical supply to the fans may also be provided through the brackets or separately.
[0008] The brackets can be wall mounted or ceiling mounted, the only criterion being that connection can be bade to the heating circuit.
[0009] In order that the invention may be more fully understood and example is discussed below with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a radiator according to the present invention.
[0010] The radiator 1 is a hot water fan assisted radiator having a conventional internal heat transfer pipe, such as a finned pipe, though which hot water passes when heat is needed, heat is driven out through the front grill 2 by internal fans.
[0011] The radiator 1 is pivotally mounted between brackets 3 and 6, with a pivotal mounting on each. In this instance the radiator is vertically mounted on a wall, but it could be wall mounted horizontally (or at any other angle) of on the ceiling. In the configuration shown the lower bracket 3 contains the electrical supply 4 which is connected to a terminal block in the radiator, which in turn is connected in a conventional way to the fans. The warm water input and outputs 5 pass through lower bracket 3 and are to the water input to and water output from the radiator by conventional armoured flexible hoses.
[0012] As an alternative the lower bracket 3 may contain the warm water supply to the radiator and the upper bracket 7 the cold water return. The supply and returns are connected to the radiator by rotating couplings at the pivot points, for rapid installation and removal of the radiator, the rotating coupling can be dry-break couplings (these are available from many sources). Alternatively the dry break couplings could be between the water supplies and returns in the brackets(s) and the main water circuit from and to the heat pump, enabling the radiator and brackets to be moved readily to other positions having connections to the main water circulation, improving substantially the utility of the invention.
[0013] Other arrangements for the mountings of the fan assisted radiator can be devised by the skilled designer without departing from the spirit of the invention.
[0014] Although particularly designed for use with fan assisted hot water radiators for used with central heating systems supplied with water from an air or ground source heat pump, there is no reason why the radiator described here should not be used in a central heating system supplied with hot water from a boiler.
