Abstract

253,342. Lerner, F. May 18, 1925. Rotary-blade type.-In a paper cutting machine a straight-edged rotary knife inclined to its axis of revolution and constituting in any of its positions a generatrix of one system of generatrices of a hyperboloid of revolution co-operates with a stationary straight-edged knife, the edge of which constitutes one of the generatrices of the other set of generatrices of the same hyperboloid. The rotary knife 2, Fig. 6, is held on spring-urged arms 14 pivoted on pins 13 to blocks 16 spaced by washers 17 on a boss 12 on the knife shaft. The knife is adjusted as a whole round an axis in its plane perpendicular to the axis of the shaft by adjusting nuts 19 engaging bolts secured to the blade, and round an axis perpendicular to its plane by mounting the knife 2, arms 14, and blocks 16 in transverse slots in the boss. The stationary knife 5, Fig. 10, is adjustable on a plane parallel to the axis of the knife shaft to vary the angle between the edge and the axis by mounting the knife 5 on a support 21 secured on transverse slots in the cutter frame. The distance between the edges 6 of the blade and the axis is varied by securing the blade on bolt 27 passing through transverse slots on the cutter and arranging adjusting bolts 26 contacting with the back of the blade. The web is fed by feed and drawing off rolls and the rotary cutter is operated through a speed gear. Specification 251,579 is referred to.
