Abstract
252,958. Wellman Smith Owen Engineering Corporation, Ltd., (Case, A. F.). Sept. 29, 1925. Rotary tipplers. - Top clamping bars 34 are pivoted at 35 on clamping sliders 30 at the side of the cradle opposite to that towards which the cradle turns for discharging and the clamps are actuated automatically as the cradle turns to engage and hold the truck in position. The rail platform 22 on the cradle is movable laterally and is urged towards the right by the spring 24 but is retained in position with the rails 13a in line with the track rails by a stop not shown. When the cradle begins to turn, the platform leaves this stop and moves to the right bringing the truck against the side supports 36 which form guides for the ends of the bars 34. Each bar 34 carries pairs of sheaves 37, 38 in bights of two holding ropes 41 anchored at 42 and wound on a drum 47. Each of the slides 30 carries a sheave 39 in the bight of a lifting rope 44 which is anchored at 45 and is wound on a drum 48 in the opposite direction to the holding ropes. In the position shown, the slides are held up by the pull of chains 65 wound on drums 50 on the shafts of the drums 48, these chains being anchored as at 66 to counterweighted levers 57 which are pivoted on the drum shafts and bear on guides 59 when the cradle is in its normal position. As the cradle turns, the counterweights 58 move up the guides 59 and the slides and clamping bars are free to move downwards to engage the top of the truck. The bars can take up an inclined position, and there is a flexible connection between the drums 47, 48 to permit of this. When the cradle has turned through about 45‹, the levers 57 hang vertically and pawls 60 pivoted thereon come against spring-supported cams 63 on the cradle and are forced into engagement with ratchet teeth 60a on the holding drums against the action of releasing springs 61. The clamping bars are thus locked until the cradle returns to the same position in righting the truck.
