Abstract

252,597. Southall, J. Sept. 23, 1925. Rotary sieves. - In. a machine for washing gravel, sand, &c., of the type described in Specification 216,024, [Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], comprising a revolving barrel divided by annular division plates into a series of chambers along which the material is caused to travel by means of lifting vanes in each chamber, the material from the washing chambers is delivered into a perforated extension chamber in which it is sprayed and washed. The machine comprises a series of barrel sections 1, 2, 3 separated by annular plates 5, 6, 7 and tapering toward the inlet end. Attached to the plates 5, 6 7 are lifting vanes 26, 28, 30 which lift the material and drop it on to shoots 27, 29, 31 respectively mounted in the central openings by which means it is transferred to the next chamber. The extension 32 comprises graded screens, and water is sprayed into this chamber from a pipe 37 having jets 38. The sifted fine material is delivered through the screen 33 into a settling trough 39, the coarser grades being delivered through the screens 34, 35. The fine material is lifted from the trough 39 by an elevator, preferably of the bucket type, and the overflowing water passes through pipes 46 to a tank 47 into which dip radial tubular arms 48 attached to the section 3 and provided with scoops 49. Rollers 53 mounted on short rocking arms bear on the outside of the screens and serve to dislodge any stones wedged in the perforations.
