Abstract
An integrated washbasin and shower unit comprising a waterfall washbasin and a waterfall shower tray which convey gray water into the shower base / container and it is used to flush the toilet. The gray water collected inside the shower base, equipped with a filter, a pump and a UV light, is sent to the toilet cistern when flushing the toilet by means of a float switch allocated into the cistern.
Description
Integrated washbasin and shower gray water recycling system for flushing the toilet This invention rdates to a system of integrated washhasin and shower gray water recycling unit for flushing the toilet. The aim being to reduce the drinking water consumption in a household, by using the waste gray water from the washbasin and the shower in order to flush the toilet.
The system is composed of 3 components: the washbasin; the shower unit, which comprises a shower tray and a base (water container); a switch allocated in the we cistern which allows the latter to be refilled when the cistern's handle is released.
The installation does not involve structural works, but only simple electrical and hydraulic connections.
The waterfall washbasin and shower allow (he gray water to fall into the base of the shower I container to be stored, and re-used to flush the toilet, The shower's base includes an immersion pump, a UV light and a filter. The function of the pump is to convey the water to the we cistern, and the UV light works as purifier of the water collected in order to avoid smells from the container when necessary.
Benefits of the system are a significant saving of drinking water, savings on water bills and on the cost of urban gray water purification. lii some countries, often in summer the water supply is lacking, therefore, this invention will hdp to optimally manage the consumption of the water.
The invention can be used mainly for domestic use, not excluding the use in industrial buildings and business premises. such as shops. gyms and public toilets.
It is not possible to achieve (lie same result with a different solution, unless the water consumption is drastically and voluntarily reduced.
As a rough guide you can say that the consumption of any discharge of water is measurable between 6 and 20 litres of drinking water, and in a family of four people can be estimated between 48 and 160 litres per day. In one year, you can estimate the consumption between 16,800 and 56,000 litres of drinking water, which is equivalent to 16.8 to 56.0 cubic meters of water. Being the cost of one cubic meter in the UK in 2014 approximately equal to £6.5, by using the invention it can he saved from £109.00 to £340.00 per year (water and sewerage) per household. It is worth reminding, also, that a 3 minutes shower equals to 50 litres of water.
The invention prototype was made of composite materials, such as marine plywood for the structure, acrylic and polyurethane for the shower base (container), stainless steel for the reinforcement of the shower tray, mosaic as outer coating. Of course it can be realized with any different materials, such as plastics, synthetic stone, stainless steel, and ceramic.
The washbasin, in the upper part. is fixed to the wall by a passing through stainless steel tube, and where it joins with the base of the shower, is connected by stainless steel pins.
The washbasin is free of drain pipes; its shape, an inverted L. and its angle makes that the water flows and is collected in the trap located in the base of the shower. The pipes that bring water to the tap are hidden inside the edge of the washbasin in contact with the wall.
The shower is composed of two parts, a shower tray and a base. The shower tray is removable (with a retractable handle), free of pipes and an edge along three sides. It is equipped with a rubber band that completes the trap. The shower tray is removable in order to inspect and clean the water container.
The base is composed of a supporting structure fitted with stainless steel square section tubes to support the weight of the shower tray and an individual. A further coating in acrylic or polyurethane forms the container for the collection of water. In the upper left hand side of the base of the shower is a concave element in acrylic or polyurethane which forms the trap. that is a small amount of water is retained and, along with (he rubber band located in the shower tray, prevents the passage of smells.
At the top right hand side of the base there is an overflow pipe connected to the main waste pipe. In addition, there is the passage of the pump tube and the passage of electric cables. The container contains more than 100 litres of water. Along the upper edges of the base of the container, (hose in contact with the shower (ray, there is a rubber seal. Also in the base of the shower, the side towards the wall conceals the passage of the pipes.
The pump and the UV light, which am already low-powered, can he powered from the main or from solar panels by means of a battery.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1/7 shows the graph of the path of the ay water Figure 2/7 shows the combined unit (the washbasin and the shower) Figure 3/7 shows the 3D view of the unit (the washbasin and the shower) Figure 4/7 shows the washbasin Figure 5/7 shows the shower base (water container) Figure 6/7 shows the 3D view ol the shower Base (water container) Figure 7/7 shows the shower tray.
In figure 1/7 the water falls from the washbasin and from the shower tray into the shower base and is there collected, filtered and pumped to the wc cistern when the cistern's handle is released. By means of a Iloat switch the pump is on when the wc cistern is empty and is off when the we cistern is full.
In figure 2/7 the water running from the washbasin by means of gravity and a specific angle of the plane of the sink number 1, and the water running from the shower base, by means of gravity and a specific angle of the tray number 2, fall into the trap number 3. and from there into the shower base / container number 4.
In figure 4/7 is shown how the washbasin is fixed to the wall by means of a stainless steel bar passing through number 1. The washbasin also presents a hole to accommodate the tap number 2, a hole for the running of the water pipes number 3, and a doubled fence that hides the water pipes number 4.
In figure 5/7 is shown the structure and its inclination that gives the slope to shower tray number 1 and the acrylic or polyurethane water container number 2, a part of the trap number 3. the supporting square section tubes number 4, the stainless steel pins that join the washbasin to the shower base number 5. and an empty space that hides the pipes number 6.
In figure 6/7 is shown the hole for the overflow connection number 1, the hole for the running of the electrical wiring (for the immersible pump and UV light) number 2, the hole for the running of the pipe of the pump number 3, and rubber seal that runs along the three edges wherc the shower tray sits number 4.
In figure 7/7 is shown the shower tray and the rubber band number 1 which completes the trap, and the (ray edges number 2.
