Abstract

A water recycling system that works by re routing waste water using existing as well as extra plumbing, a filtration screen and holding tank(s). The system has a flow switch (5) fitted that will automatically cut in when water is required. When the water is needed it will pass through a water filter before being pumped to the toilet header tank or an external water storage tank. The toilet header tank will hold water for toilet flushing, while the water in the external tank can be used for washer vehicles or watering gardens. The system is made up of common plumbing items for example filters, pipes, filtration screens, tanks and pumps. The principle of the system is to recycle grey water from baths, showers, wash basins and gutters.

The Water Recycling System
Today and in the future we are facing water shortage issues that will cause ecological, financial and environmental issues. 1 have designed a recycling system that will cut the amount of water used by homes and business. To those on water meters it will save money after the initial cost of installation.
The basic principle is to recycle grey water from baths, showers, wash basins and gutters. It can be reused for toilet flushing, car cleaning, garden use and any other suitable application.
This is achieved by re routing waste water drainage via basic plumbing and a filtration screen into a holding tank(s). The system has a flow switch fitted that will automatically cut in when water is required.. When the water is needed it will pass through a water filter so it is cleaned. The next stage will be to supply either the toilet header tank (situated in loft) for cisterns or external water storage for the garden or car cleaning.
Description of Parts (see Figure 1)
1. Outlet Pipes/Plumbing.
Basic plumbing installed to re route existing drainage to feed system holding tank(s).
2. Gutter Pipes/Plumbing.
Basic plumbing installed to re route existing drainage to feed system holding tank(s).
3. Filtration Screen.
A permeable screen that is designed to remove debris from the water, it can be removed for periodical cleaning.
4. Holding Tank or Tanks.
Capacity would be according to size of property, space available and required use.
5. Water Filter & Flow Switch.
The water filter is required to cleanse the water for use. The flow switch sends a message to the pump for activation.
6. Water Pump.
The water pump is used to push water up to the toilet header tank of hose pipe use.
7. Toilet Header Tank.
This is designed to give head to toilet cisterns.
8. Outside Outlet Tap.
Outlet tap from the holding tap via plumbing, to make water available for common garden use, clean cars or other suitable uses.
9. Top up Ball Cock.
The top up ball cock is there to supply water to the toilet header tank if the holding tank(s), item 4 have run dry. It is positioned at a lower level than the ball cock feeding water in from the holding tank(s), item 4. The plumbing for this can be fed either directly from the mains or via the existing main header tank, item 11.
1
10. System Feed Ball Cock.
The feed ball cocks purpose is to stop the water flow when the toilet header tank is full.
11. Existing Main Header Tank or Mains Pressure.
This will need to be adapted to incorporate the new Water Recycling System.
12. Plumbing to Toilets.
Most of the plumbing to the toilets will already exist with the exception of the plumbing coming from the existing main header tank. The existing plumbing will have to be redirected with the use of new pipes & fittings.
