Abstract

252,468. George, W. J. March 3, 1925. Pedestal stands. - A device for supporting apparatus for use in scientific demonstrations, and particularly apparatus for teaching mechanics, and comprising a stand or stands consisting of a foot 10, Fig. 1, with a vertical rod 9 secured thereto, is provided with clamps consisting of a pair or pairs of grooved discs arranged with the grooved faces adjacent one another on a transverse screwed rod having means by which the discs are secured thereon in any position. The foot 10 is provided with intersecting apertures 10<a> to enable a number of stands to be connected together by a red 11. The clamps consist of a pair of discs 14<a>, 14<b>, Figs. 3 and 5, provided with corresponding V-shaped grooves 14<c>, 14<d> for receiving the vertical rod 9. The disc 14a screws on to a transverse rod 15 and is provided with a recess 14g for the reception of a locking-nut 16 for securing it in position. The disc 14<b> is freely slidable on the rod' 15 and is clamped on the rod 9 by a wing-nut 15<a>. A number of clamps may be mounted on the rod 15, each consisting of a pair of discs 14h freely slidable on the rod and adapted to be forced into gripping-position by a wing-nut 15<a>. As the discs 14h are freely mounted on the rod 15, they can be used to support a piece of apparatus in any angular position.
