Willows, treating.-A wheel s mounted in a frame q carries at its periphery a clamp i, a stripper a being supported on the frame in the path of movement of the clamp. Both stripper and clamp are constructed as gripping tongs and their opening and closing are effected automatically through spring - controlled linkwork actuated respectively by cam f, revolving with the wheel shaft, and by stationary cams l mounted on brackets q<1> fixed to the frame. Springs h provided with adjusting screws h<1> tend to close the stripper jaws, which are of circular section, and springs n hold the ends of the. operating rods k of the clamp in contact with the cams l. The tension of the springs n is adjustable by varying the positions of their lowers ends, which are held on rack bars o mounted on the body of the wheel. In operation, a rod is placed butt end forward in the stripper, when it opens. The clamp, open at position A, Fig. 1, and closed at B, seizes and pulls on the forward end, releasing the peeled rod at position C.
