Abstract

An adjustable edge protection post comprises two parts, a first part includes a base plate counterweight attached to which is a first end of a first tube, the first tube being inclined toward the base plate at 7 degrees from perpendicular to the base plate. A second part comprises a second tube with diameter greater than the first tube, characterised by a nut and grub screw attached to the tube proximal to a first end, whereby, in use, the first end of the second tube is placed over a second end of the first tube, to overlap the first tube, whereupon the grub screw located on the second tube is tightened onto the first tube to connect the tubes together, whereby the edge protection post can be adjusted further to raise the first tube and horizontal base plate counterweight from the surface upon which it rests to a raised position to give temporary access to the surface. This allows any safety rails associated with the post to remain in position, protecting the roof edge during work which requires access to the roof surface under the base plate.

Description

Dual Guard I have worked in the construction safety sector for about twenty years, My invention is, Two handrail rail systems in one, Its a free standing none penetrating Permanent and temporary system. I believe there isn't another system that does both jobs. The system uses a base counter weight that comes in three sizes l200mmx lSOmmx2Omm 800mm x 150mm x 20mm 400mm x 150mm x 20mm With male 38mm diameter tube 500mm long welded 7 degrees from vertical 140mm from the front with a carry handle 390mm from the front, the handle is 12mm x 120mm x 40mm and is welded to the base counter weight.
The next part the system is 48.3mm tube x 900mm with M16 nut and M16 x 25mm grub screw.
Place the 900mm tube over the 38mm tube on the base and set at 300mm from the base, using 2no cast iron J -fittings fix to the tube at 470mm spacing's from the top. Repeat this sequence at 2000mm and or 2500mm centre's Once the system is erected you can now lift one of the legs by undoing the M16 grub screw lifting the handle upwards and then tighten the grub screw up again locking the leg in a raised position Benefits The benefits of having two systems in one are wherever people are working on roofs, there is a need for protection using Dual Guard gives you total protection, For instance if you are having to repair and or recover your roofs with Dual Guard there is no need to take down your handrail and replace with a temporary system that allows you to work right up to the edge of the roof, and then once the roof works are complete replace the temporary system with the permanent! With Dual Guard you just lift the base within its self-allowing you to work right up to the edge of the roof in complete safety. Our handrail remains in place at all times.
I have included drawings and photos The first two pictures are of the 400mm x 150mm x 20mm base with the male 38mm diameter 7 degree post and the second with the leg 48.3mm x 900mm long showing the M16 nut and grub screw. With the J-fittings this picture show a double handrail but with our system it could have up to four. Claim
