Abstract
251,300. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Brown, W. TV., and Love, J. E.). April 25, 1925, [Convention date]. Transformers.- Electric transformer coils are wound about a hollow core comprising a number of sections 1 fitting partially one within another, each section supporting a single coil-unit on projecting insulators 4 partially or wholly held upon the section by the turns of the coil. Each section may be cylindrical with a flanged end 2 fitting within the end of the adjacent section and with a peripheral ledge 3 supporting the radial insulators 4. The insulators 4 may be supported during the winding of the coil by a strap passed through perforations 9 in the insulators, the strap being removed after winding if desired. The sections 1 are of hardened plastic or vitreous material such as porcelain. Mica or other insulation is inserted at 8, 10 between the sections and insulators and between adjacent sections. The insulators 4 are triangular with conductor-retaining grooves 5, 6, for example, as described in Specification 222,134, [Class 36, Electricity, Conducting &c.]. The conductor is wound in an outwardly-extending spiral in the upper grooves 5 and in an inwardly extending spiral in the lower grooves 6, the conductors on adjacent sections 1 being connected together by connectors. The grooves 6 are in staggered relation to the grooves 5. The conductors may be wound in every groove or grooves may be left idle or two windings may be interlaced to form a transformer.
