Abstract

250,368. Foster, I. M. Feb. 26, 1925. Mechanical and like toys; detonating toys.- A box or container for toys is in the form of Santa Claus or other mythical figure and has an internal plate, &c., which, when the lid of the box is opened, rises and lifts the contents of the box to display same; means are also provided to prevent movement of the contents relatively to the plate &c. as the latter is raised. As shown the plate d, which may have upstanding walls d<1>, is secured to a rod c<2> provided at its lower end with diametrically opposed projections which normally engage under lips a<4> on the bottom of the box; the upper end of the rod c<2> carries a button c having detents c normally engaging lips a<2> on the two parts a<1> of the lid to hold them closed. By depressing the button c and rod c<2> against the action of a compressed spring e arranged between the plate d and the bottom of the box a, the parts of the lid are released and upon turning the rod to release the projections from the lips a<4>, the spring e raises the plate d and renders the contents of the box accessible; the contents are retained on the plate by a covering of paper &c. or by strips of material. The lid parts may be spring hinged and stops a<6> may limit their outward movement. The lid may be fastened by a device comprising two overlapping parts adapted to receive a detonating substance which is exploded when the two parts of the fastening are drawn apart; the lid may be hinged to the box by a pin comprising two similar overlapping parts. Toys may be suspended from arms, c<4> on the rod and the inside of the box may be roughened to retard the upward movement of the plate. The rod may be arranged within a tube carrying arms and trays for holding toys etc.; the hand or other part of the figure may be arranged to hold the lid closed and the plate in its depressed condition. The lid may be in one place and held by a removable pin, spring catch or bayonet joint.
