Direct air pressure apparatus, automatic; aircompressing devices, applications of; raising by stages; valves for pressure fluid, actuation and urrangement of.-In liquid-raising apparatus of the kind in which air is entrained by water falling from a, level 1 to a level 2 and is released in a chamber 4, two series of elevating tanks are arranged so that the tank 22 fills by gravity while air from the chamber 4 forces liquid from the tank 21 to the tank 25 and the air connections to the tanks are such that when the tanks 21, 26, 29 are connected to the chamber 4, the tanks 22, 25, 31 are connected to the air exhaust pipe 19 which is preferably led to the induction pipe 3. The air valve 18 may be automatically actuated as shown in Fig. 4 in which the piston valve 45 connects tank 21 to the compressed air pipe 17 and tank 22 to the exhaust pipe 19x. When the float valve 52 opens, air passes through the pipe 47 and moves the valve 45 to the other end of the cylinder, reversing the connections. The air pipes 6 projecting above the head-race level are supported in a member 7 which may be adjusted vertically to act as a valve controlling the flow into the induction pipe at the end of which is a baffle 10 to assist the trapping of air in the chamber 4. The chamber 4 may be closed, the induction pipe passing in at the bottom and a return pipe to the tail-race being provided. The induction and return pipes may be connected tangentially to a cylindrical chamber.
