Abstract

A container 1 with an airtight lid in the form of sealing plate 3 limits air ingress to the container by creating a contact seal between the lid and the contents. This is achieved by means of moveable and sealable lid which is housed within the container and which can move upwards and downwards within container 1 to adapt to varying quantity levels within the container, via a compressible hemispherical component 11. An expandable gasket 6 can be modified in its diametrical dimension by a compressing or releasing action by two plates; sealing plate 2 and compression plate 3. In the release position the lid can be moved to a range of positions within the container and then sealed. The compression and release mechanism is by way of screw lock system (Fig 2) which houses an integrated venting valve 4 and stopper 7, to allow the expulsion of air as the lid is adjusted to produce a sealing contact with the contents of the container. Screw lock 8 may be turned to create upward or downward movement by the tracking of pin 9 along groove (10, Fig 1)

Description

PRESERVING CONTAINER
BACKGROUND
There are airtight containers which efftctively help preserve food and other perishable materials.
These containers work most effectively when full. As the contents of the container are removed, however, and air is allowed into tile container, the degrading effect of oxidisation begins.
Vacuum containers are available which can be used to counter this effect, many using a pump system to extract the air
DESCRIPTION
This invention uses a different method to limit air ingress by creating a sealing contact between the lid and compaetab[e or liquid contents of a container similar to the conditions commonly found in pre packed foods. With this invention, this stable condition can be maintained between repeated extractions of material from the container. It is anticipated that principal use of this invention will be in connibutiong to the preservation of organic and non-organic materials by limiting both the effects of oxidation and evaporation, Acconiniodation is made for materials of a more solid nature in a variation of the invention which will be included in the following
description that will refer to drawings supplied.
The lit! of the container, illustrated in the open position, in FIG 1, fits internally within the main storage compartment (1). The sides of the container are parallel tItus allowing the lid to be pushed downwards into the compartment onto the material to be stored creating a seal with the lid.
Air pressure build up during this process is released by way of a vent (4) which runs through the central column of the screw lock component(S) A stopper (7) is used to open and and close the air vent.
Turning the screw lock component (S) clockwise or anti clockwise creates an upwards or downwards movement by the tracking action of pin (9) along the groove (10) similar to the movement found in a nut and bolt arrangement.
When the lock () is in the open position, the sealing plate (2) and the compression plate (3) are separated and the gasket ring (6) adopts a light pressure contact with the container wall allowing an upward or downward movement of the lid to facilitate adjustments to varying levels of materials accommodated by the container (1). The lid can also be removed, allowing access to the container.
In the locked position illustrated Fig 4, compression of the sealing plate (2) onto the compression plate (3) causes the flexible gasket ring (6) to forced outwardly expanding its diametrical site and creating an airtight seal with the wall of the container. It is envisioned that to accommodate materials of a moi.solid consistency, a variation on the design wouki find attached to the sealing plate(2) Fig 3,a compressible hemispherical component (1 1) that, under pressure, would incline to towards adopting a sealing contact with the materials contained within.
It is further envisaged that the shape and forni of this invention can be adapted to accommodate varying storage and packaging requirements The foregoing description of the invention has been presented for purposes of illusfltion and description and is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise form disclosed. The described embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principals of the invention and its practical application to thereby enable others in the art to best utilise the invention in various embodiments and with various modifications as suited to tile particular use contemplated. Therefore, further modil'ications or improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention
