Abstract

A container for food or drink comprises a substantially circular base and an upstanding wall defining an open topped chamber (6), and a lid element (12) slidingly and sealingly received in the chamber (6) and movable to vary the size of the chamber to minimize any air gap above the contents. The lid element (12) incorporates a sealable air vent (9) and a ring seal (21) is provided.

Description

Food Container This invention relates to a device that eliminates the air gap in a container, where the contents are periodically consumed, such as semi liquid food and drink.
Background When foodstuff, such as the remains of the contents of a tin are not consumed they my be preserved in various ways for later consumption.
One of the best and most efficient ways of preservation that can give a virtual air excluded seal is a plastic bag, and one of those twisty bag sealers that we are all familiar with.
However, such bags are not realistically reusable, or practical for a liquid/semi liquid substance.
Also there is the Tupperware style lid container that also seals against the outside air.
Such a container is of course reusable, but unless the remaining food needing to be preserved fits exactly into its new home, there is an air gap that in most cases would aid the decomposition of the food.
The object of the invention herein described is intended to provide the efficiency of a plastic bag as described above, with the reusability of a solid container.
Example According to the example, there is provide a container closed at the bottom end, with an airtight transparent internal lid, that adjusts by sliding up and down as necessary to eliminate any air gap.
There is provide an air/vacuum release valve in the lid, in this case closed and opened by turning the same handle that is used to raise and lower the lid. The seal is provided by an edge seal on the lid.

  1. Claims 1. A container comprising a base of substantially circular cross-section, the base supporting, about its periphery, an upstanding wall, the base and the wall together defining a chamber with one open end, the chamber having a substantially constant cross section, the open end of the chamber slidingly and sealingly receiving a lid element incorporating a salable air vent, the lid element being movable within the chamber such that the volume of the chamber may be varied.
