Abstract
A guiding element 9 is mounted immediately downstream of a delivery mechanism, for example a pair of rollers 7, 8 (for example, nip rollers). The element has across its width a guiding surface 9a in the form of a channel with a through-hole, and is rounded off in the immediate vicinity of the through hole; the guiding surface may be shallowly angled with respect to the longitudinal axes of the rollers. The element may be held stationary during its operation, as may the guiding surface. The substantially triangular space between the rollers and the fibre web passing between them is largely closed off by the guiding element due to the upper and lower longitudinal edges extending towards the upper and lower rollers, respectively.
Description
Apparatus at a card, for taking up a fibre web emerging from a delivery mechanism and gathering it into a fibre sliver The invention relates to an apparatus at a card, for taking up a fibre web emerging from a delivery mechanism and gathering it into a fibre sliver.
Tt is known to provide immediately downscream of the delivery mechanism, which may be for example a pair of rollers, a directing element which has across its width at least one immovable directing surface having a through-hole.
In a known apparatus (El 0 775 768 A), there is arranged downstream of the nip rollers a funnel-like element, the inlet of which is associated with the pair of nip rollers and the outlet of which is associated with a drawing mechanism. The spacing between the drawing mechanism with the funnel-like element and the pair of nip rollers is modifiable, by means of a moving device, substantially in inverse proportion to the working speed of The card. The spacing can also be modified in dependence on another parameter and also during operation of the machine. This known apparatus is complicated in terms of the equipment.
It is also disadvantageous that, as a result of the spacing of the funnel-like element from the nip rollers, disruptive air flows can act on the fibre web from above and/or below and also from the sides.
It is an aim of the invention to provide an apparatus of the kind described at the beginning that especially allows, by simple means, improved guidance of the fibre web from the delivery mechanism, for example nip rollers, to the web funnel, especially in the case of a relatively wide working width and/or high delivery speed.
--I.
The invention provides an apparatus at a card for taking up a fibre web emerging from a delivery mechanism and gathering it into a fibre sliver, having immediately downstream of the delivery mechanism a directing element which has across its width at least one immovable directing surface having a through-hole, wherein the directing surface is in the form of a channel, the open side of which substantially closes off the space formed between the pair of nip railers, and there is provided a rounded-off guiding element at regions of the channel which are associated with the through-hole.
As a result of the fact that the fibre web directing element at the card is constructed in the form of a channel (open to one side), vertical and horizontal guidance of the web is improved. The web is guided from the nip rollers to the web funnel in controlled manner. The nip rollers form between their surfaces, immediately adjacent to the roller nip, a space that is approximately triangular in cross-section. Tn order to accomplish high delivery speeds, disruptive air flows are kept away from the web. For that purpose, the open side of the channel substantially closes off, across the width, the space formed between the pair of nip rollers. As a result, the hollow space in the channel is closely associated with the fibre web emerging from the roller nip.
Advantageously, the upper and lower longitudinal edge of the channel is arranged directly adjacent to the upper and lower nip roller, respectively.
At least one rounded-off guiding element is provided in the vicinity of the through-hole of the channel, for guiding the fibre to the through-hole. Advantageousiy, the guiding elements are arranged perpendicular relative to the longitudinal axis of the pair of rollers. Advantageously, the guiding elements protrude from the directing surfaces in the direction of the pair of rollers. The directing surface comprises a first lateral region extending generally from the through-hole towards a first side of the machine and a second lateral region extending generally from the through-hole towards a second side of the machine opposed to the first. A said rounded-off guiding element is preferably located at that extremity of each of said first and second lateral which is adjacent to the through-hole.
Advantageously, the directing surface forms, in relation to the longitudinal axes of the pair of roliers, in an angle that slants towards the through-hole. Advantageously, the angle of slant is shallow. In certain embodiments, the directing surface may be a curved surface, for example having a generally ellipsoidal surface shape corresponding to a portion of an ellipsoid. In other embodiments, the surface shape may include one or more discontinuity. For example, the surface shape may be squared off, having first and second longitudinally extending portions forming, respectively, an upper and lower longitudinal edges of the directing element, and further having, between said first and second longitudinally extending portions at least one central portion, the angle of inclination of the first and second longitudinally extending portions towards the through-hole being greater than the angle of inclination of said at least one central portion towards the through-hole.
Advantageously, where there is a said central portion between said first and second longitudinally extending portions, the central portion comprises a first central portion extending from a horizontal plane containing the through-hole upwardly towards the first, upper, longitudinaily extending portion and a second centrai portion extending from a horizontal plane containing the through-hole downwardly towards the second, lower, longitudinally extending portion.
Advantageously, the directing element is stationary during operation. Advantageously, the directing surfaces are stationary during operation.
The invention further provides an apparatus at a card, for taking up a fibre web emerging from a delivery mechanism and gathering it into a fibre sliver, having immediately downstream of the delivery mechanism, for example a pair of rollers, a directing element which has across its width at least one immovable directing surface having a through-hole, wherein the directing surface is in the form of a channel or the like, the open side of which substantially closes off the approximately triangular space between the pair of nip rollers, and there is provided a rounded-off guiding element at each of those end regions of the channel which are associated with the through-hole.
Certain illustrative embodiments of the invention will be described hereinafter in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows, in a side view in diagrammatic form, an apparatus according to the invention at a flat card; Figs 2a, 2b show, respectively, in side views, and 2c first, second and third illustrative forms of directing element according to the invention arranged downstream, in the working direction, of two nip rollers; Fig. 3 shows schematically, in section along I-I, the directing element according to Fig. 2a;; and Fig. 4 shows, in a perspective view, a further illustrative embodiment of the directing element having guiding elements.
Figure 1 shows a carding machine, for example a flat card TO, made by Trützschler GmbH & Oo.KG of Mdnchengladbach, Germany, having a feed roller 1, feed table 2, lickers-in 3a, 3b, 3c, cylinder 4, doffer 5, stripper roller 6, nip rollers 7, 8, web-directing element 9, web funnel 10, delivery rollers 11, 12, revolving card top 13 with card top guide rollers 13a, 13b and flats 14, can 15 and coiler 16. Reference letter N denotes the centre point (axis) of the cylinder 4.
Reference numeral 4a denotes the clothing and reference numeral 4b the direction of rotation of the cylinder 4. The arrow A indicates the working direction. The directions of rotation of the rollers are indicated by the curved arrows drawn inside the rollers. The upper delivery roller 11 rotates anti-clockwise and the lower delivery roller 12 rotates clockwise.
Figs. 2a, 2b and 2c show three illustrative embodiments of directing element 9. In accordance with each of Figs. 2a to 2o, there is arranged downstream of the nip rollers 7, 8 a directing element 9, which is open in the direction of the nip rollers 7, 8 in order to admit the fibre web (emerging from across the width of the roller nip -not shown) . In each embodiment, in use, the fibre web slides along the immovable directing surface 9a. The open side of the directing element 9 substantially closes off the approximately triangular space between the pair of nip rollers 7, 8. In Fig. 2a, the directing element 9 arranged downstream of the nip rollers 7, 8 is generally ellipsoidal. The directing element 9 in Fig. 2b is of squared-off configuration. In Fig. 2c, the directing element 9 is of generally prismatic configuration.
In operation, the fibre web leaving the nip rollers 7, 8 comes into contact with the directing surface 9a in such a way that the fibre web is rolled up in somewhat folded manner. As a result, the fibre web is gathered and drawn off in the direction defined by the direction of rotation of the delivery rollers U, 12. For the purpose of being directed away from the directing surface 9a, the gathered fibre web is guided around rounded-off guiding elements 17a, 17b (for example, of the kind shown in Fig. 3 or Fig.4) and brought together in the web funnel 10 to form a fibre sliver (not shown) Fig.3 shows, in section along I-I, the arrangement according to Fig. 2a. The nip rollers 7, 8 have length 1, which may be, for example, 1303 mm or more. The directing element 9 extends over the entire length of the nip rollers 7, 8 (that is to say, over the entire width of the card) . In the region of the take-off point, it has a through-hole 9b, which leads into the web funnel 10, where the entering fibre web is compacted into a fibre sliver.
From each of the roller mountings 19a, 20a (l9b, 20b not shown) to the hole 9b, the directing surface 9a has -on average -a slanting shallow angle of inclination. The directing surface 9a can be of flat construction or can have a concave or convex curvature. The concour of the directing surface 9a can also be composed of a plurality of arcuate portions. The two regions of the directing surface Os which are associated with the hole 9b (through-hole) are arched in the direction of the nip rollers 7, 8 and form two rounded-off guiding elements 17a, 17b. The guiding elements 17a, l7b are, in this arrangement, integrated into the directing surface.
Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of the directing element generally similar to the embodiment of Fig. 2b which, when seen in cross-section, is squared-off. The directing element 9 has two directing surfaces 9a1 and 9a2.
Between those two end regions of the directing surfaces 9a1 and 9a2 which are associated with the hole 9b and the entrance to the hole 9b there is arranged, in each case, a rounded-off guiding element lSa and lBb, respectively, for example in the form of a pin or the like. The longitudinal axis of the guiding elements 18a, lSb extends substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the nip rollers 7, 8. The guiding elements 18a, 18b are, in the illustrative embodiment according to Fig. 4, separate components.
