Abstract
249,259. Rimmer, G., and Hoy, A. Y. Jan. 19, 1925. Coal-cutting machines. - For a coal-cutting machine of the swinging-jib type, such as that described in Specification 211,475, a railway trolley is provided with a mounting so constructed as to receive the machine and to enable such machine to be rotated about a longitudinal axis so as to alter the position of the plane of the cutters 5. Fig. 1 shows a trolley 1 with a segmental runway 2 into which fits a similarly curved attachment 4 of the coal-cutting machine 3, which may be rotated so that the cutter 5 may be moved through 90‹, as shown in full and chain lines. Rollers may be fitted between the parts 2, 4. The machine shown in Fig. 3 has T-section attachments 4 running on rollers 8 in the trolley. It may be removed bodily, and is secured in position by sliding bolts and by flanged gripping-jaws 14 operated by a screw 16. The rotation of the machine about its axis may be effected manually or mechanically. The truck is driven by the motor of the machine through a shaft 22 coaxial with the axis of the attachments 4; the shaft 22 has a clutch 24 for connecting up the gearing 23, 29, 30, 32, 33 for driving the track wheels 31. If this gear is locked, for example by a detent 34, the reaction of the motor will cause the machine to rotate about its axis. A track brake 35 is fitted, and a band-brake 36 is associated with the jib to control it. These have controls 37, 38. Specification 197,970 is referred to.
