Sliding switch-carriage arrangements; oil switches.-Switch gear for connecting a feeder to either or both of two bus-bars comprises the combination in one oil tank of a fixed contact 5 connected to the feeder or to a feeder contact 2, a bridge 7 adapted to connect the contact 5 to a fixed contact 6, two contacts 8, 9 connected to the bus-bars or to bus-bar contacts 3, 4 and switching means for connecting one or both of the contacts 8, 9 with the contact 6. The figure shows switch gear of the draw-out type, the contacts 2, 3, 4 being adapted to be moved into engagement with contacts connected to the feeders and bus-bars. An operating lever 19 connected to the contacts 8, 9 by pinions 16, 17, a chain 18, and racks 13, 14, causes the contact 9 to descend into engagement with the contact 6 simultaneously with the rising out of engagement of the contact 8 and vice versa. In a modification, leads from the contacts 3, 4 proceed to fixed contacts through which pass plunger contacts which are simultaneously raised and depressed by the operation of one handle operating through linkage mechanism and in a further modification plunger contacts 8, 9 similar to those shown in the figure have separate operating levers so as to be independently movable. The Provisional Specification describes a construction in which contacts connected to the bus-bars are adjustable so that one or other or both of them are engaged by a bridging-member which engages a contact connected to the feeder.
