Abstract

248,834. Cross, C. F., and Engelstad, A. Dec. 10, 1924. Ink.-The viscous condensation products made by treating the lignose sulphonic acids described in Specifications 202,016 and 229,002, with acid condensing agents either alone or together with phenolic compounds such as pyrogallol, gallic acid, tannic acid, or haematein, are employed as the basis for inks. Thus they may be mixed with ferrous sulphate and a soluble colouring matter, or with a soluble colouring matter alone, or with a pigment or colour lake such as lampblack, prussian blue, iron oxide, or yellow ochre. According to examples (1) a concentrated writing-ink is obtained by adding ferrous sulphate and a soluble blue (sulphonated triphenylrosaniline) or blue-black (nigrosine) to one of the condensation products; (2) a stencil or printing ink is obtained by mixing one of the products, after nentralization, with lamp black, prussian blue, and glycerine.
