Abstract
The hand operated drilling machine is a one man operated tool that includes a spoil removal facility. It may be used for the production of neat, cylindrical holes in a range of materials, for example soil or clay for various applications including erecting fence posts and numerous gardening functions. Two sets of blades B, C may be used to cut soil from the circumference of a hole and channel it, G, into a body A of the tool. The soil may be released at will from the chamber A via a manually operated push rod mechanism I, J.
Description
HAND OPERATED DRILLING MACHINE
DESCRIPTION
Background:
Excavating a circular and vertical hole for any purpose (such as a hole required to enable a vertical post to be concreted in place eg: 2' deep x 8" diameter) using hand tools is a laborious process due to the difficulty in removing the soil at the bottom of the hole. The resulting hole is often miss-shaped or too small or too large for purpose. The result is additional effort, a less effective result and additional use of concrete.
Currently available products are limited to tools that drill the hole but do not remove the soil and products that remove the soil from the hole that is dug by other means.
Statement of invention:
The invention is a completely one man operated, easy to use, low cost, robust drilling machine that has the facility to remove the spoil from the hole as part of the drilling process (eg directly into the wheel barrow or storage container).
Advantages: * Enables the production of a neat, cylindrical hole.
* The cylindrical drilling head (or chamber) contains blades, which as part of the drilling process, channel and hold the spoil prior to it being * released away from the hole.
* The invention is powered purely by the user and requires no fuel or electricity.
* The invention is a robust and relatively low cost item.
* Parts are available which can be fitted using bac workshop facilities.
* It can be used for numerous purposes, such as lanting, obtaining samples, producing holes for posts. * * it can drill into a variety of substances.
INTROUCTION TO DRAWINGS
The following drawings shàw components listed below and the two main stages of the drilling process (figures 4 and 5).
The drawing shows components listed below and: Fig 1: The machine with all components.
* Fig 2: The drilling chamber -plap view from below.
* Fig 3: Drilling chamber -side view.
Fig 4: Empty chamber in part drilled hole (ready to recommence drilling).
Fig 5: Full chamber in part drilled hole (ready to commence emptying process).
Components: A. Cylindrical drilling chamber.
B. 4 equally spaced bottom cuffing blades I soil and holding blades.
C. 4 equally spaced consolidation / collection / expansion blades.
D. Tubular shaft.
E. Tee-bar I handle.
F. Soil release rod G. 4 equally spaced openings.
H. Shaped connecting bracket.
1. Soil release push plate.
J. Hand' release plate.
K. Chamber load spring.
Replacement parts: (i) Blades (B&C).
(ii) Soil release rod (including soil release plate (F&l)).
(iii) Hand release push plate (J).
(IV) Chamber load spring (K).
Detailed description:
Two handed operation of the tee bar / handle (E) rotates the tubular shaft (D) and cylindrical drilling chamber (A) which enters the ground1 as facilitated by blades (B). Blades (C) aid the hole drilling process and assist by channelling the spoil into the cylindrical drilling chamber via the 4 equally spaced openings (C). Qpe ration of the hand plate (J) forces the spil release rod (F) and soil release push plate (1) into the cylindrical drilling chamber to release the spoil.
This is aided by chamber load spring (K).
Or other material.
Claims (3)
- CLAIMS1. The invention is a completely one man operated, easy to use, low cost, robust drilling machine that has the facility to remove the spoil from the hole as part of the drilling process (eg directly into the wheel barrow or storage container).
- 2. Blades channel and retain spoil into collection chamber / drilling head.
- 3. Spoil can be releasedat will from the chamber by use of a manually operated push rod mechanism, which is integral to the unit.
