Disc and wheel apparatus; trueing rotating tools; spindles and spindle mountings.-A grinding-wheel is trimmed by a carborundum or other hard wheel 14 mounted at the overhanging end of a spindle 6 by means of a nut 16 and a washer 15 on the spindle, which is mounted in ball bearings 4, 5 in a casing 1. The bearing 4 is larger than the bearing 5 and is mounted obliquely-as shown to take up side thrust and the inner rings of the bearings are spaced by a sleeve 7; the outer ring of the bearing 5 is not anchored, and a spring 13 takes up wear in the bearings. A groove in a ring 10, which holds the outer ring of the bearing 4 in position, co-operates with a rib 11 on a disc 12 on the spindle 6 to exclude dust from the bearings. In use, the device is mounted by an extension of the casing so that the axis of the wheel 14 makes an angle of 10‹ to 30‹ with that of the grinding-wheel undergoing trimming, and the wheel 14 is driven by its frictional contact with the grinding-wheel.
