Abstract
535,481. Mounting grinding wheels. LIDKOPINGS MEKINSKA VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 9, 1939, No. 27546. Convention date, Oct. 31, 1938. [Class 60] A grinding wheel 1 is mounted to a hub 5 coupled to the spindle 8 to rotate therewith and having anti-friction bearings 20, 21 to permit the hub to slide freely on the spindle. The wheel is supported on a sleeve 2 which is itself secured to the hub between a flange 6 and nut 7. The spindle 8 which may be motor-driven is carried in self-aligning doublerow ball bearings 10, 11 protected by labyrinth or other packings 12-15 the members 13 and 14 having annular sealing flanges 23, 24. The sliding bearings consist of bushings 16, 17 in the hub and similar bushings 18, 19 on the spindle, separated by balls arranged longitudinally and peripherally in cylindrical tubular retainers 21. For moving the wheel axially a slidable rod 25 is connected to the hub by a key 26 and is also connected through thrust bearings 28 to a block 29 which is movable axially in a housing 30 by means of a hand wheel 34 screwing over an extension 31 of the block. In one application a torsion spring member 37 is finished by cantreless grinding between a regulating wheel 36 and an axially movable wheel 1 mounted as above described. The ends of the wheel are shaped in accordance with the fillets 41 of the work and by axial movement of the wheel both fillets may be ground until a satisfactory surface thereon is obtained. In a modification the spindle and the bore of the hub may be polygonal in crosssection, balls or rollers being placed between the hub and spindle to reduce friction, the key being thus relieved from the friction of transmitting rotation.
