248,317. Scott, W. M., (Assignee of David, B. W.). Feb. 24, 1925, [Convention date]. Variable resistances.- A rheostat or potentiometer for wireless &c. is enclosed in a cup-shaped casing 1 with a sheet-metal cover 9 secured together by dowel-pins 10. A bushing 12 secures the casing to the panel 16 and supports a spindle 19 carrying the contact-device. This consists of a band 25 of elastic metal secured at 27 to an arm 21 attached to the spindle 19 and bent at 26 as shown to form a contact shoe of considerable area. The arm 21 is bent as shown at 23 to form a support for the shoe 26 in its angular motion without interfering with its yielding to irregularities in the resistance 5. A spring 31 bears on the end of the spindle 19 to hold it in place and make electric connection with it.
