Abstract

248,301. Orchard, J. L., and Cambridge Instrument Co., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1925. Thermometers.-Means for indicating the temperature of cylindrical bodies such as heated rollers comprise a thermo-couple of strip form so mounted that it can conform to the contour of the roller within wide limits of curvature, and a galvanometer &c. for indicating the E.M.F. of the couple. The instrument comprises a casing 1 provided with a handle 2 and carrying the galvanometer 3. A flat spring 5 attached to the middle part of the casing has insulated ends 6 with hooks 7 for the attachment of the thermocouple 'strip 8, 9 which is perforated at its ends and is of such length that when attached to the hooks the strip is bent as shown in dotted lines. The hooks 7 also carry the leads 10, 11 for the galvanometer, the scale of which is preferably graduated to read temperature directly. In using the instrument the handle 2 is pressed down sufficiently to cause about half the length of the strip to conform to the curvature of the roller.
