Description

COUPLING ACCESSORY FOR WIRE MESH CABLE TRAYS AND
PROCEDURE FOR ASSEMBLING SECTIONS OF SAID TRAY
Field of the Invention
The instant invention refers to a coupling accessory for wire mesh cable trays, especially for curved sections, and a procedure for assembling sections of wire mesh cable trays that uses said accessory.
Backciround of the Invention The wire mesh cable trays that are routinely used in electrical installations are made up of several lengthwise and transversal metal wires coupled to each other, the transversal metal wires having a U shape and, preferentially, being separated from each other by the same distance, in such a way that they form a base surface and two lateral surfaces.
There are several types of coupling devices for wire mesh trays found in the market, which can be made up of one or several pieces.
Document ES1 194825 for "Adjustable pressure platelets for strung cables comprising stranded or trellis wires, assembly of such platelets in strung cables", discloses a plate comprising some means that enable it to be adjusted by a snap fitting on strands of strung cable in two noticeably perpendicular directions. This plaque may have a noticeably rectangular shape, with two of its longitudinal edges that allow for the snap fitting of the plate on two strands that are found to be separated by a given distance, and two transversal edges that allow for the snap fitting of the plate on two strands separated by a second distance that is less than or equal to the first.
Document ES2307447 for a "Quick attaching device for wire mesh trays" discloses a device for attaching wire mesh cable trays to a structural support element that is comprised of a body configured in a general U shape, the lateral branches of which comprise attaching means configured to act on lower longitudinal wires located on the sides of the tray, said attaching means consisting in folds that protrude from the sides of an upper part of the body, creating upper support zones of said longitudinal wires. Said lateral branches comprise, in correspondence with the folds and an upper level, marked tabs openning towards the support zones, making it possible to subject the longitudinal wires that are housed between said support zones and the tabs.
Document ES2322787, for a "Coupling device for wire mesh trays and wire mesh tray sections coupled by means of said device" discloses a device that comprises a main body with a substantially square or rectangular shape, two curved wings facing each other that protrude from the main body, each one comprising a coupling kink with the main body and a free section, and elongated tabs in opposite directions, that protrude from the ends of the main body. Said tabs have a normal position, in which they prevent a transversal wire of the tray located within the section of the curved wings from disengaging from the section in a natural manner, and a forced position that allows inserting a transversal wire into the section of the curved wings. In this way in the normal position said tabs are given an inclination so that they remain in the section of the curved wings.
Although the devices of said documents consist in at least one piece that enables a relatively secure coupling of adjacent sections of wire mesh cable trays without using any tools, it is still necessary to have an easy assembly accessory available that provides additional security to prevent them from decoupling when forces or weight are placed on said cable trays.
Summary of the Invention
Thus the object of the instant invention is to provide a coupling accessory for wire mesh cable trays that makes it possible to improve the security of the coupling between sections of cable trays.
The invention disclosed is a coupling accessory for wire mesh cable trays of the type comprised by longitudinal wires and transversal wires, which consists of a body with a base in a general shape of a quadrangle with right angles, that has a channeled lateral part in the shape of a half circle that enables the housing of a transversal wire of the tray in its interior and that ends in two lateral edges in which: -from one lateral edge of said channeled lateral part an upper perpendicular prolongation extends, and from the other lateral edge of said channeled lateral part a lower perpendicular prolongation extends, said prolongations being separated by an intermediary hollow space that allows the insertion of transversal wires of the tray.
-the upper and lower prolongations have a straight section that ends in a semi cylindrical edge which enables the housing of a transversal wire of the tray in its interior, the semi cylindrical edges being vertically aligned, -one of the prolongations comprises a tab folded inward and adjacent to the channeled lateral part, while the other prolongation comprises a tab folded inward and adjacent to its corresponding semi cylindrical edge.
The invention also teaches a procedure for assembling sections of wire mesh cable trays that employ at least one coupling accessory of the invention, according to claim 6.
By means of this configuration with upper and lower prolongations, an intermediate hollow space and tabs, an accessory is obtained that enables improving the security of the coupling between the sections of cable trays, thus avoiding the accidental decoupling of the same.
Furthermore, the assembly procedure is simpler because the configuration of the piece with the intermediate hollow space enables the horizontal coupling of the accessory by inserting the vertical sections of the transversal wires of the section to be coupled in the intermediate hollow space of the accessory.
Another advantage of the invention is its versatility, given that it serves both to couple curved sections and straight sections.
Another additional advantage of the invention is that the anchoring tabs can be relatively short, so that they do not easily become deformed when applying force to the system and the accessory may be made of materials such as plastic.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will be disclosed in the following detailed description of an exemplary embodiment of the object in relation to the accompanying figures.

Detailed Descriltion of the Invention Figures 1 to 5 show several views of coupling accessory 1 for wire mesh cable trays 10 of the invention. The wire mesh cable trays 10 (which are shown in Figures 5 to 11 B) consist of several longitudinal metal wires 11 and transversal wires 12 interlacing each other, transversal wires 11 having a U shape (with vertical sections 13) and being separated from each other, preferably in an equidistant manner, so that they form a base surface and two lateral surfaces.
As shown in Figures 1 to 5, especially the perspective view (Figure 1), said accessory 1 consists in a body with a base in a general shape of a quadrangle with right angles (in the embodiment depicted in the figures it would be a rectangular shaped base), that has a channeled lateral part 2 in the shape of a half circle that enables the housing of a transversal wire 12 of wire mesh cable tray 10 and that ends in two lateral edges 3.
From a lateral edge 3 of said channeled lateral part 2, upper perpendicular prolongation 4 extends, and from the other lateral edge 3 of said lateral part 2, lower perpendicular prolongation 5 extends, said prolongations 4, being separated by an intermediate hollow space 8 that enables the insertion of transversal wires 12 of tray 10.
Upper prolongation 4 and lower prolongation 5 show a straight section 6 that ends at a semi cylindrical edge 7, which enables the housing of a transversal wire 12 of tray 10 in its interior, semi cylindrical edges 7 being vertically aligned.
One of the prolongations comprises a tab 9 folded towards the inside and adjacent to channeled lateral part 2, while the other prolongation comprises a tab 9' folded towards the inside and adjacent to its corresponding semi cylindrical edge 7.
Preferably prolongations 4, 5 that separate lateral edges 3 of channeled lateral part 2 have a general shape of a rectangular plate interrupted by corresponding tabs 9, 9'.
Lateral edges 3 of channeled lateral part 2 can be straight and coincide with the edges from which said channeled lateral part 2 originates, as seen in Figures 1 and 2.
Likewise, as shown in the embodiment of the figures, semi cylindrical edges 7 can have the same height.
Preferably tabs 9, 9' have a length that is lesser than half the length of straight section 6 of the prolongation on which it is placed (see Fig 2, for example). In this manner they do not easily become deformed when applying force to the assembly. This also makes it possible to manufacture accessory 1 from of materials such as plastic The procedure for coupling the sections of wire mesh cable trays 10, which employs at least on coupling accessory I of the invention, comprises the following steps:.
-Step 1 (Figures 5 and 6): Placing side by side two sections of cable trays and at least one of the vertical sections 13 of its transversal wire edges, -Step 2 (Figures 7 and 8A-8B): Horizontal coupling of accessory 1 by inserting vertical sections 13 of the transversal wires of the sections to be coupled into intermediate hollow space 8 of accessory 1, -Step 3 (Figures 9A-9B and 1OA-1OB): Rotation of accessory 1 from its horizontal position in such a way that it is set in a vertical position between two longitudinal wires 11 of each tray 10 and with channeled lateral part 2 and semi cylindrical edges 7 parallel to vertical sections 13 of the transversal wires, -Step 4 (Figures 11 A and 11 B): separation of the two cable tray sections in such a way that vertical section 13 of the transversal wire of the edge of a tray 10 is inserted into the hollow interior space of channeled lateral part 2, and vertical section 13 of the transversal wire of the edge of the other tray 10 is inserted into the interior hollow spaces of semi cylindrical edges 7, leaving at the same time each tab 9, 9' in contact with vertical section 13 of the corresponding transversal wire by the opposing face with which it is in contact with channeled lateral part 2 or with semi cylindrical edges 7, respectively.
Although some embodiments of the invention have been described and depicted, it is obvious that modifications can be made to them within their scope, and that the invention should not be considered limited to said embodiments, but rather only to the content of the following claims.
