Abstract

Cam-actuated pumps; multipledelivery piston pumps; pumps for viscous liquids; regulating delivery by by-passes or return conduits; valves, arrangement of; pipes. -In a device comprising a series of reciprocating - pump units 10, 11, &c., Fig. 1, so arranged that the reciprocating parts of each unit engage and operate, those of the next unit, each unit has longitudinal passages 18, 19 in alignment with those of the adjacent units to form supply and return conduits. Each unit has plungers 13, 14 abutting against those of the adjacent units, the end plungers being actuated by a cam 17, and one or more plungers 21 may be adjustable in length by means of a screwed part 20. The return of the plungers may be effected by a cam at the other end, by a hydraulic pressure device, or by the pressure of the liquid in the pumps. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the units are each provided with plungers 23, 24 and with a piston valve 25 similarly actuated, and each unit my have an independent by-pass valve 28 adjustable so that the fluid is delivered to an out- Jet 30 or to a return conduit 27 connected to the supply conduit 26. The device may be used in the manufacture of artificial silk from viscose, the outlets 30 being connected to spinning nozzles. Specifications 248,038, 248,039, and 248,046 are referred to.
