Fixed-chamber apparatus.-In a self-contained apparatus, the throat d<1> of a hopper d delivers into a horizontal cylinder or spout b<1> in which reciprocates a bevel-ended ram e which is geared to a counter to operate the latter during the forward stroke only. The hopper and cylinder are constructed in one unit, which in the example shown is mounted on a table a which also supports brackets i, in turn supporting a shaft on which is mounted a driving handle k and a disc l connected to the ram e by a connecting rod m. The device may be mounted on wheels for portability. The rack # on the ram drives the counter h through a one-way clutch. A further clutch may be placed between the one-way clutch and the counter and be connected to a pivoted member in the throat d<1> or spout b<1> for the purpose of declutching the counter when no material is passing.
