Respirators.-A cartridge 1, Fig. 1, for selfcontained breathing apparatus, is divided into cells by partitions 2 of wire net or like, each cell containing a corrugated frame or spacing-member 6 of wire net or the like. Of the pockets formed by the corrugations of the frames 6, only those opening upwardly are filled with gas-absorbing chemicals 3. The relative arrangement of the frames 6 is such that the chemical-filled pockets of one cell are opposite to the vacant pockets 4 of the adjoining cells. In circular frames as shown in Fig. 2 the pockets 4 are of radial form and may be arranged to communicate with small circular or elliptical recesses 5 in or near the centres of the frames. When non-central the recesses 5 may be formed in diametrically opposite positions in adjacent frames. Alternatively each frame may be formed with an even number of chemical-receiving pockets, the desired pocket arrangement being effected by inverting alternate frames. Elliptical frames are formed with an odd number of chemical-receiving pockets and alternate frames are, in this case, reversed. In another modification, circular or elliptical frames may be formed with annular instead of radial pockets. According to a further modification an elliptical frame is formed with parallel corrugations. In each of these modifications the desired pocket arrangement is effected by inverting alternate frames in the cartridge. Specification 145,678 is referred to.
