532,585. Filtering air. ORR, W. M. March 3, 1939, No. 15075/40. Divided out of 527,217. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group I] A filter cartridge is formed of superpack mats 1, Fig. 1, of coarse fibrous material containing bundles of fibres, the individual fibres of which are held together by the natural binding material and which have their axes substantially parallel to the upper and lower faces of the mat. Each mat is secured to the next by adhesive which provides an impermeable place between the mats. As shown in Fig. 3 the mats have central apertures and the cartridge is provided with a reticulate screen core 19. The apertures of the inner mats are larger than those of the end mats, so that an inner space 20 is formed, which is packed with bleaching clay, boneblack, charcoal or a drying agent, such as calcium chloride.
