Abstract

247,890. Duncan, F. C. Nov. 17, 1925. Bookmarkers. - In bookmarkers of the kind wherein a resilient member attached to the cover of a book by a spring clip or the like projects over the pages, the resilient member is adjustable in length in order to adapt it for books of different sizes. The resilient member comprises a resilient strip a<1> coiled upon a drum b rotatably mounted upon a fixed spindle b<1> within a cylindrical casing c, the outer end a of the strip extending through an aperture in the casing. The casing is fixed upon one end of a base d, to the other end of which is attached a clip e for attachment to the edge of a book cover i. Means for shortening the tongue a is provided by a small chain g wound upon a pulley f attached to the side of the drum b, so that by pulling the chain the tongue is wound within the casing. The chain may be held in the set position by passing it through a tapered slot m in the base d. On releasing the chain the tongue is automatically projected by the expansion of a spring which is coiled within the drum b and tends to rotate it. A small extension c' may be provided on the casing c to bear downwardly upon the marking tongue.
