Abstract

247,614. Holt, H. Aug. 25, 1924. Winding - machines; stop-motions. - In a winding machine having one or more bobbin spindles each spindle a, Fig. 1, has slidably fixed thereon a collar c normally bearing on a friction pad on a freely mounted pulley b which is driven from a shaft as in Specifications 2335/10 and 196,498. A shaft r Fig. 4 driven from the shaft n by a chain-drive o, p, q, drives through gearing a cam k loose on a shaft 1. A shaft y, rocked from the cam k by an arm x, actuates through bevel gearing, shafts 2 which act through adjustably connected arms 3, 4 to rock the shafts j. The screwed rod d on which is mounted a block 13 .carrying a thread-guide e is vertically reciprocated by an arm i, on one shaft j. A link 34, connected to the arm i, oscillates a pawl-carrying arm 30, Fig. 2, to rotate intermittently a ratchet 26 on a shaft 25. The amount of rotation imparted by the pawl 27 is limited by an adjustable shield 33 and overrunning is prevented by a stationary spring- pressed pawl 35. A sharp-toothed bevel wheel 24 slidably keyed to the shaft 25 serves to rotate a similar bevel-wheel 8 on a. sleeve 7 which is journaled in a rail 10, and, in which the rod d is slidablv keyed. In this way the block 13 which threadedly engages the rod d and is held from rotation by engagement with a rod 18 is reciprocated and its field of action changed. A spring-pressed dog 14 which carries the thread portion of the block 13 can be retracted to allow of manual adjustment of the position of the block. An adjustable stop-collar 16, comprising two nuts tightened on the rod d by screws 17 defines the initial position of the block 13. A number of pawls 27 may be used if it is required to reduce step by step the movement of the ratchet 26. The ratchet 26 may be replaced by a silent feed and either may be duplicated to act for each movement of the rod 34. The bevel wheel 24 is slidably keyed to the shaft 25 and is moved out of engagement with the wheel 8, by a lever 37 linked to a lever 42 pivoted at 43, either on failure of thread or when the bobbin is fully wound. The spindle a is also stopped at such time by actuation of the lever 42, screws 48 in which raise rods 49 against springs 50 to raise the collar c from the pulley b and to brake it. The lever 42 carries a pivoted thread-hook carrier 45 which is normally held out of engagement with an oscillating wiper 46 by the thread. On failure of the thread, the wiper 46 engages the carrier 45 to rock the lever 42. A slidably-mounted rod 51 is normally positioned with its end 53 below a catch 54 on the lever 42. When the bobbin is fully wound, the thread-guide e acts on an arm 56 of the rod 51 to raise the rod, and so rock the catch 54 which releases a pivoted hook 55 on the lever 42 into engagement with the wiper 46 which again acts to rock the lever 42. When winding more than one thread on to a bobbin, failure of one acts through a separate member 45 to stop winding. When any number of spindles are used, the bevel wheels 24 on each side of the machine may be actuated from a counter-shaft rocked bv the ratchet mechanism from the shaft j, and the rotation of the shafts 25 may be varied independently by change wheels. In this case a common stopping means, actuated on completion of the cops, is employed, but separate stopping means are provided for each spindle in case of yarn failure. Instead of shifting the wheel 25, the shaft j may be stopped.
