Abstract

246,930. Ironside, E. A. Nov. 8, 1924. Volatile liquids, recovering.-Apparatus for recovering volatile solvent by passing the vapours through a condenser is combined with an adsorber such as that described in Specification 238,984, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], containing a solid adsorbent such as active charcoal or silica gel to recover final traces of solvent. As applied to apparatus for treating hides with petrol &c., the hides are suspended in an extracting-chamber 1 and petrol is run in from a tank 2. The solution of grease in petrol is run into a still 12, from which vapours pass to a condenser 4. Condensate passes through a decanting vessel 7 to separate water and is returned to the tank 2. Solvent which remains in the hides is removed by passage of steam or air under pressure through the chamber 1 and either through a pipe 3 and the condenser 4, or through a pipe 10 and an adsorber 9. When the adsorbent is saturated, steam is passed through it and the vapours passed into the condenser 4.
