Bottling; ' crown corks' and the like, applying.-A bottling machine is provided with automatic bottle-transferring mechanism comprising two sets of reciprocatory grippers, one set being adapted to transfer bottles to a rotary filling-unit and the other to transfer them therefrom. As shown, the machine comprises a rotary filler having filling-heads 22 and bottle supports 5, a syruper provided with a head 36 and a bottle rest 55, and a sealing-unit consisting of a head 37 and bottle rest 56. Bottles, fed by hand or mechanically are transferred singly to the rest 55 by one pair of two pairs of grippers, the second pair simultaneously transferring a bottle charged with syrup to a rest 5 of the filler. Each pair of grippers comprises two bars 60 formed with V-shaped ends and mounted on levers 62 secured to horizontal guard members 54 which ward off spilled liquid. The guards 54 are secured to sleeves 51 adapted to oscillate about shafts 64<1> and are formed with knuckle levers 64, the ends of which engage a member 65 adapted to be raised and lowered to open or close the grippers by a rod 69 to which it is connected by a roller 67 and slotted link 68. The rod 69 is actuated, against spring action by a rocking lever 70 engaged by a cam 72 on a cam shaft 42. The slotted link 68 allows horizontal motion to be imparted to the sleeve 51 and the grippers to move the bottle to or from the rest 55. To effect this, a casing 66 surrounding the member 65 is secured to an arm 76 rigid with a rock shaft 77<1> oscillated through a link 79 by a cam 78 on the shaft 42. A similar set of grippers transfers bottles from the filler to the crowning- unit and from there to the point of delivery from the machine. The bottle rests 55, 56 are raised towards the syruping and crowning heads 36, 37 by cams 84, 86 which act through blocks 58, 88 resiliently connected to the rests and are mounted freely on the cam shaft 42 to which they may be operatively connected by clutches 90, 91.
