Openwork effects producing, by mechanically removing parts of threads.-A thread-drawing machine is provided with an additional presser foot which coacts with a pressure cutting blade inde. pendently of the usual presser-foot to tension the fabric at the moment of cutting the threads drawn by the needle. The feed-wheels 12, 13 are driven by suitable gearing from the main shaft 6. Presser-feet 15, 16 mounted on a presser can press the fabric against the feed-wheels. A cutter blade 19 is mounted in a frame 18 slidable on guides 17 and resting on a lug 24 which is moved upwardly at the moment of cutting by a cam 26 actuated by a connecting-rod. The active cutter blade 22 is carried by an arm 21 mounted on a shaft 20 driven in known manner by articulated cranks 42, 43 and a crank disc 44. The auxiliary presser-foot comprises a pair of wedge-shaped members 30 carried by a bar 28 resiliently supported by springs 31, 32. At the moment when the cutter 22 is actuated to cut the threads drawn down by the needle 4, a lever 33 is actauted by a cam-track 34 on the main shaft so as to compress the spring 32 and force the members 30 against the passive cutter 19, thus tensioning the material at the cutting point,
