Abstract

245,193. English Electric Co., Ltd., (Seewer, P. W.). Sept. 30, 1924, Centrifugal governors; fluid relays; transmitting-mechanism. - The lever connecting a centrifugal governor to the pilot. valve of a servometer is given rocking movements in two planes one of which moves the valve as the speed changes and the other causes a return movement of the valve due to the movement of the servomotor. The pivot of the lever may be moved to obtain a permanent speed variation with change of load. A rotary casing 8 carries rollers 10 bearing against an inclined surface and a disc 16, loaded by adjustable springs and bearing against one end of the lever 5 through a rod 4 and sleeve 21. A dashpot 27 communicates with the chamber 33. The lever 5 pivoted on the sleeve 44 actuates the needle valve 6 controlling leakage from a cylinder 84. The piston 83 moves a piston valve 82 which distributes fluid to chambers 91, 92 to actuate the distributing valve 61 of the servomotor. Rotation of the. sleeve 44 is caused by the servomotor piston (not shown) to which it is connected through a dash-pot 158. The ends of the lever 5 have an arcuate shape and one or both ends have a cam face 41 so that rocking of the lever due to the servomotor in one plane causes it to rock in the other plane in a direction contrary to that due to centrifugal action, tending to neutralize the first movement of the needle valve 6. This neutralizing movement is carweUed as the movement of the dash-pot 158 returns the lever to its central position. The dash-pot comprises a bracket 159, Fig. 15, to which two cylinders 161 are secured and in which the cylinder 162 is a sliding fit. The pistons 181 are biassed to central position by springs 183 and are attached to a crossbar 168 also connected to piston 167 which has a through passage for fluid controlled by an adjustable needle valve 173. Toothed sectors 157 on the lever 152 gear with racks 158 secured to the cylinder 162 and the crossbar 168 is connected to the toothed sector 51.
