Abstract

Paper, wood, and fibrous pipes and tubes.- Tubular girders are constructed from a fibrous material, such as wood wool or peat wool, in rope form, which is helically wound in one or more layers about a mandrel, and drawn off the latter after hardening with Sorel cement. The rope may be impregnated with the hardening medium before winding. The rope 1 may be provided with an iron wire core 2. When the tube is wound with more than one layer, wires 5, 6 may be provided between the layers, the wires 6 being placed parallel to the axis and the wires 5 being wound helically. A pair of tubular elements may be joined together for use as roof beams. A beam, Fig. 5, may be provided with longitudinal channels, concrete being poured in between tubes 11 and the outer element. The elements may be plastered or rendered with lime, stone, wood, asbestos cement, or asphalt before erection.
