Abstract
A hot plate 2 and cooking vessel 6 comprises a hot plate with an electrical heating element, a cooking vessel and means to secure the cooking vessel to the hot plate. Preferably the securement means is in the form of a recess in the base of the cook pot which receives the top of the hot plate (fig 2A) that may have a projection (fig 2D) and/or a recess in the top of the hot plate (fig 2B and 2D) which receives the base of the cook pot that may have a projection (fig 2C). The recesses may be tapered. Alternatively the securment means may be a catch mechanism or the feet of the cook pot that extend over the perimeter of the hot plate. The heating element control 3 may project from the side of the hot plate, and the base of the cook pot may have a recess 8 to accommodate the control device. The lid 10 of the cook pot may be made from transparent glass with a metallic periphery 11. The hot plate may also have protruding feet 5A, 5B, 5C that prevent the transfer of heat from the hot plate to the surface that it is resting upon. Preferably the hot plate sits on a base support member 13.
Description
Title: Hot Plate and Cook Pot The present invention relates to a hot
plate and cook pot.
According to the present invention there is provided a hot plate and cook pot comprising: a) a hot plate having an electrical heating element, b) a cook pot for cooking food, and c) securement means to secure the cook pot on the hotplate.
In one embodiment the securement means is in the form of a recess in the cook pot base which receives the top àf the hot plate. Preferably the recess is tapered to receive a tapered hot plate top.
In another embodiment the securement means is in the form of a recess in the top of the hot plate which receives the base of the cook pot. Preferably the recess is tapered to receive a tapered cook pot base.
Preferably a heating element control device projects from the side of the hot plate. A recess may be provided in the cook pot base to accommodate the control device.
Preferably a lid is provided for the cook pot. The lid may be a transparent glass lid. The glass lid may have metallic periphery to support the glass lid off a surface.
Preferably the cook pot has radially spaced feet projecting from the cook pot base.
Preferably the hot plate has radially spaced feet projecting from the hot plate base.
Preferably a base support member is additionally on which the hot plate can sit. The base support member may be of a type described in my co-pending patent application no. An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to that accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of one embodiment, Figures 2A shows a cross section view of the securement means of the embodiment of Figure 1 in use, and Figures 2B to 2D show alternative shapes of securement means to that shown in Figure 2A and Figure 1.
Refernng to Figure 1 and 2A, there is shown a hot plate and cook pot 1.
A circular hot plate 2 has an electrical heating element 2A on a base 2B. Heating element 2A is controlled by a thermostatic control device 3 which projects from the periphery of the heating element 2A and base 2B. Heating element 2A and control device 3 are powered by the mains through a lead 4A and plug 4B. Three radially-spaced feet 5A,5B,5C (5B not visible) extend from the bottom of base 2B. The hot plate 2 tapers inwardly towards its top.
A circular cook pot 6 is provided for cooking food. The base of cook pot 6 has a recess 7. The periphery of the cook pot base has a recess 8 to accommodate the control device 3. Cook pot 6 has radially spaced feet 9A,9B,9C projecting from the cook pot base.
Tapered hot plate 2 and recess 7 form a securement means to secure the cook pot on the hotplate, and also help to align the cook pot relative to the hot plate when placing the cook pot on the hot plate.
A lid 10 is provided for the cook pot 6. The lid 10 is of transparent glass so the contents of the cooking pot 6 can be viewed. The glass lid 10 has metallic peripheral band 11 to support the glass lid 10 off a surface to prevent the lid 10 from cracking when placed on a cold surface, e.g. a wet counter. A handle 12 is also provided.
Hot plate 2 may be mounted to sit on a base support member 13. The support member 13 has three indentations to 14A,14B,14C to receive feet 5A,5B,5C. Screws 15A,15B,15C engage with the feet 5A,5B,5C to secure the hot plate 2 to the support member 13. Alternatively, the base support member may be of a type described in my co-pending patent application no. the contents of which are hereby incorporated herein.
In use food can be placed in the cook pot 6. The cook pot 6 can be heated by the hot plate 2 and cooked. Once cooked the cook pot can be placed on a surface (e.g. a table) with the feet 9A,9B,9C spacing the hot cook pot 6 from the surface, thereby protecting the surface.
As shown in Figure 2C, instead of the hotplate 2 being tapered and the cook pot recess 7 being tapered, the cook pot recess could be cylindrical and the top of the hot plate 2 could be a cylindrical projection.
As shown in Figure 2B and 2D, the securement means is in the form of a recess in the top of the hot plate which receives the base of the cook pot. In Figure 2B the hot plate recess is tapered to receive a tapered cook pot base. In Figure 2D the top of the hot plate has a cylindrical recess to receive a cylindrical projection on the cook pot base.
The invention may take a form other than that specifically described above. For example the cook pot and hot plate could be other than circular, e.g. square or rectangular. The securement means could be of another shape or design, e.g. a catch mechanism. Alternatively, the hot plate could be flat and the pot could have a flat base which rests on and overlaps the flat hot plate, and feet extending down from the perimeter of the pot could form the securement means preventing the pot from sliding off the hot plate and thus securing the pot on the hot plate.
The cook pot could be designed for different types of cooking, e.g. for boiling, stewing, frying, grilling, roasting, or for barbecues.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
