Abstract

A method is disclosed for reducing the effects of food waste decaying in waste storage bins by reducing the rate of decay by adding a powder which may <SL> <LI>a) add an anhydrous desiccant such as chalk to reduce moisture content by absorption, <LI>b) reduce access to oxygen by covering the food waste with the powder, <LI>c) contain an antibacterial agent to reduce bacterial activity, </SL> or by masking undesirable odours by including a perfume in the added powder.

Description

Description of invention
Technical field
This invention relates to a method of slowing, preventing or at least reducing the rotting process; especially in rotting food.
Backiround Human domestic waste including food waste products, is stored usually in black rubbish bags. One of the problems with this type of containment is that it does not prevent further rotting of waste products.
This gives rise to unwanted bi-products from the rotting process including offensive odors. in order for food (Carbon source) to roil, certain products need to be available-Oxygen, H20 and Nitrogen need to be available. This invention interrupts the rotting process by making one or more of the necessary components unavailable or less available.
Essential Technical features According to the present invention there is provided a list of necessary features that are included in the rotting process-air and water. This invention blocks or reduces access to either of these by covering the rotting foods with powder that includes the following properties- * it is dehydrating, it absorbs water, * antiseptic, ie it includes antibacterial properties and * includes perfume to mask offensive smells.
Example
a specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a domestic rubbish bag.(2) in a rubbish bin( 1) Figure 2 shows a profile view of the contents (3) of a rubbish bag in a rubbish bin Figure 3 shows the rubbish being covered manually(S) by use of a type of containe(6) with holes that allows spreading of the substance! mixture! powder.(4) Figure 4 shows a cross-section of a domestic rubbish bag in a rubbish bin that has had the powder!mixture added periodically In order to cover domestic rubbish (3) in a rubbish bag (2) in a rubbish bin (1), the mixture(4) containing a water absorbing powder such as ground chalk as well as perfume and an antibacterial agent(s) (all in powder form) is sprinkled over the rubbish periodically, as it is added to the rubbish bag.

Claims (6)

1. A method to reduce/slow the rotting process of human food waste by blocking or reducing access to necessary components required.
2. A method to reduce/slow the rotting process of human food waste as in claim 1 where in perfume is included to help mask any residual offensive smells/odours
3. A method to reduce/slow the rotting process of human waste as in claim 1 or 2 wherein the powder is of anhydrous (absorbs water) nature.
4. A method as in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein human food waste is covered by powder thus blocking contact between air (necessary for the rotting process)
5. A method to reduce/slow the rotting process of human food waste as in any previous claim wherein the particle sizes of the powder can be of any size.
6. A method to reduce/slow the rotting process of human food waste as in any previous claim wherein antibacterial agents can be contained in the mixture.
